Hello!  I am Mrs. Ratliff.  I have worked in the school district for twelve years.  I am 46 years old and I am married to my best friend and husband of 20 years. I have three grown children and I have been made grandma by my oldest in March of 2012.

Good Morning Class!  I have your Schedule for the week of September 2, through September 6, 2019.  Remember, when you get home tonight to remind your parents, or family members, that it is Parent-Teacher conferences with me Friday evening and Saturday morning.   


School begins at 8:00 AM and is dismissed at 3:00 PM.



Conferences:  September 6, beginning at 3:20 PM After School and ending at 8:20 PM (my dinner will be from 5:40 PM to 6:40 PM in which I will not be in for conferences at that time).  The next day there will be more conferences beginning September 7, at 8:00 AM and ending at 11:40 AM. 


 *Here is what we are doing this week: September 2, 2019 - September 6, 2019

Monday

*7:40-8:00  Eat Breakfast, Get out all work for class, homework, planners, library books.  Put your planners next to teacher's desk, opened up, and  ready to be stamped by the teacher.

 *8:00   Science -  For Science we will be learning the parts of a plant.  We are going to read from our science book and then discuss the parts of plants.  We will watch a short video about plants. Click here to view the video about parts of a plant.

 *8:45  PE  -  Today we are going to play with the parachute.  Click here to view the parachute activity.
 

*9:30 - Reading -  Reading, Skills, and Vocabulary Word Learning  -  In Reading, we will read our weekly story and then go over the vocabulary words from the story.  We will also learn our skill to look for in our reading this week.  I must tell you that our learning skill this week is Cause and Effect.

 


  *10:15 - Math - For Math we will be working on multiplying with decimals.  I will send home a homework sheet each night with practice problems for you to work on. 

 *11:00 - Computer Lab -  In computer lab, we will be working on Success Maker Reading and Math.  This is just basic reading of paragraphs and answering questions about the reading: multiple choice.  The math is the same, it is just basic knowledge and multiple choice questions over each problem.

*11:45Bathroom Break/wash Hands

 *11:55 - Lunch

*12:25 - The Teacher, (Mrs. Ratliff) reads aloud to the students

*12:45 - Guided Reading - Students will get into their reading groups and have small group reading sessions.  Each group reads from a different story line.

*1:30 - Spelling -   Today we will have spelling peer tutoring using a die (one dice).  There will be two students per group.  They will each take turns rolling the die while on the same spelling word for each student.  The die, when rolled, will land on a number which indicates the number of times the student who rolled it must write that spelling word.  
      

*2:05 - Grammar - Today we will work on placing commas where they should go.  I will explain to the students how, when, why, and where to use commas.

Tuesday:

*7:40-8:00 Eat Breakfast, Get out all work for class, homework, planners, library books. Put your planners next to teacher's desk, opened up, and ready to be stamped by the teacher.

*8:00 - Computer Lab - The students will work on Success Maker for math and reading.

 *8:45 - Library  -  The students will go to the library, have reading and working time with the librarian/teacher, and then check out books to read for the week.

  *9:30 - Reading, Skill, and Vocabulary   -   Today we will talk about the story in groups.  We will go over the vocabulary words and what they mean.  We will play a game using the vocabulary words for this week.  We will only mention the skill for today which is Cause and Effect.
        

 *10:15 - Science   -   Today we will talk about the importance of each plant part.  We will discuss the roots, stems, leaves, and flowering parts of plants and what their main jobs are for each part. 



*Work on webquest when finished with parts of plants.
*11:00 - Math  -   In math, we will practice multiplying with decimals.  I will find out which students were struggling from yesterday and work through those problems with those students and answer questions.  I will send home another practice sheet with multiplication of decimals. 

*11:45 - Bathroom Break/wash Hands

*12:25 - Teacher Reads aloud to Students

*12:45 - Guided Reading - Students will get into their groups

*1:30 - Spelling  -  Today the students will rainbow write their spelling words to make it more interesting and fun!

*2:05 - Grammar  -  Today the students will place end punctuations where they should go.  Below you will find the paper the students worked on.

Wednesday

 *8:00 - Science -  Today we will draw a picture of a plant and label each part.   After our pictures we will discuss the two types of roots that plants can have:  Tap Root and Fibrous Root.  We will talk about what tap roots and fibrous roots are and how they are different. 

  
*Work on webquest when done with reading science book.

 *8:45 - Music -  In music, the students will be listening to different excerpts from  The Sound of Music.  They will discuss the different types of music heard in that movie.  Click here to view a small portion of the video.


  *9:30 - Reading and Vocabulary  -  Today we are going over our vocabulary words from the story.  We are doing a matching game on the white board with the vocabulary.  I will be calling students up to the smart board to match a word with a definition.  After we do our vocabulary, we will play a card game.  I will make groups of students, 4 in each group.  There will be a checker and a guesser for each group.  Everyone will get a chance to play the game.  The way the game is played:  There will be a stack of cards in the center of the group.  The first to go will be decided by a roll of a die.  The first person takes a card and reads the Causes and the Effects.   The checker will always be the person playing next, that way everyone gets a chance.  If the player gets the correct answer to which is cause and which is effect, then that player keeps the card, and the next person goes.  If that person gets it wrong, then the card is placed under the pile and the next person goes.



There are many cards similar to this one in which the students must find out which comes first.  My teacher is sick today, or there is a substitute teacher.  If the student is able to know that the word "because" can fit nicely in front of the cause statement, then they can usually find that it must be the cause.

  *10:15 - Math  -  Today we are going over multiplication using decimals.  We will be doing a work sheet and I will be answering questions about decimals and multiplication.

After the worksheet is finished, the student will play a multiplication/decimal bingo game (and they get to win prizes of quality tickets). 

 *11:00 - Computer Lab  -  Success maker Math and Reading.

*11:45 - Bathroom Break/wash Hands

 *11:55 - Lunch

*12:25 - Teacher Reads aloud to Students

*12:45 - Guided Reading - Students will get into their groups.
*1:30 - Spelling  -  The students will get into partner pairs and give each other their spelling words to practice.  They will use their white boards to do this.  One will give the words (playing as the teacher) while one writes them.  Then they will switch and do the same for the other.

*2:05 - Grammar  -  Today the students will work on apostrophes; where and when to use them.

Thursday

*7:40 – 8:00  Eat Breakfast, get all work out of backpack, planners on teacher’s desk and opened. 

*8:00 – Social Studies - Today the class will be learning about the Great Lakes.  We will be discussing where the Great Lakes are located, the acronym that is good to use to help remember their names (hint; HOMES), and we will be coloring a picture of the Great Lakes.



*Work on webquest when done with picture.

*8:45  -  PE  -  Today in PE  we will be working on our jumping rope skills.  Everyone  will get a jump rope to jump with.  If someone does not know how to jump rope, the PE teacher will be glad to practice with that person. 


*9:30 - Reading - Today we will be going over our skill of Cause and Effect and what it means.  We will go over our vocabulary words for this week, and we will discuss the story and what type of story it is.  We will talk about the genre of the story, who wrote it, and what the purpose of the story was: to entertain, to describe, to inform, or to persuade.  Most stories are for the entertainment of the reader, but there are some that are different.  

After we have talked about the story, the students will draw pictures from the story and will write what is going on in the picture.  They will have a beginning, middle, and end for their pictures and stories.  The students may color them and make them as nice as they would like.

See how this has a beginning, middle, and end?  This is the idea for the drawing from the story. 

*10:15 - Math  -  Today the students are working on their own a worksheet of multiplying decimals.  I will give help when (or if )they need help, but we have worked on this for days. Hopefully the students are understanding how to do this.


*11:00 - Computer lab  -  The students are working on Success Maker - Reading and Math.


*11:45 - Bathroom Break - Wash hands

*11:55 - Lunch

*12:25 - Teacher Reads to the class.


*12:45 - Guided Reading - Students will get into their reading groups.


*1:30 - Spelling - The students will pick 10 of the words from the list of spelling words.  The ten words they pick will be used for the students to draw pictures of what the words mean and then write those words in a sentence.
  
After all the students have finished their ten sentences and pictures (they can do more if they want to), we will play a game of spelling called Sparkle.

*2:05 - Grammar - Today the students will complete a worksheet which is vocabulary building.  Below you will find the worksheet the students will do.

If students get done before grammar time is over, then we will play the cause and effect card game to help build the skill.

*2:50 - Get ready for home, pack up backpacks, fill out planners.

Friday

Friday is our test day; to make sure that students are learning all the skills they have been taught throughout the week.

*7:40 - 8:00  Eat Breakfast, unpack backpack, homework, planners opened and on teacher's desk

*8:00 - Today we will be learning about the oceans around the United States.  We will each get a coloring page and label the oceans and then color them!

  If there is time left, we will read from our social studies book about the oceans.

*Work on webquest when done with picture.


*8:45 - Music - Today in music we will watch more from The Sound of Music.  We will sing one of the songs from the movie, Doe a Deer. .. .The Do Re Mi song.  Click here to hear this song.



*9:30 - Reading - Today the students will be taking a reading test over what they have learned.  They will start with reading a story.  After they have read the story there will be some questions to answer over what they have read.  The reading test will include many concepts from the story we have read all week and it will include the cause and effect skill which was covered all week, as well.  Then the students will take a vocabulary test over what they have learned from and about the new vocabulary words this week. 


*10:15 - Math  - The students will be taking a math test over multiplying decimals.  There will be 2 digit by 2 digit problems.  There will be ample time for the students to do their best.  Below you will find a copy of the problems given.  This paper won't be too hard, as some of the work in class seemed a bit more.

*12:25 - It is my birthday so we are going to have cupcakes!

*12:45 - Guided Reading Groups.  Today we will discuss what our guided stories were about.  After we have discussed the stories, each student will draw a picture of what our story was about and then color it with markers, crayons, or colored pencils. They may do a beginning, middle, and end as we did before.  


After the students have finished coloring, they will label the picture by stating what the picture is about and what part of the story the picture was from. Finally, we will have a class sharing time or "show and tell" about our stories.

*1:30 - Spelling -  Today is our weekly spelling test.  Students will study a bit before the test.  After the test the students may work on their art-work for guided reading if they have not finished it.



*1:50 - After the spelling test, we will listen to a song from The Sound of Music to lighten the load of a very long week.  Click here to listen to Edelweiss.

*2:05 - Students will complete a simple worksheet over some grammar rules.
